Cruise through the Disney jungle: The adventure game captures the playful and textual appeal of a classic Disneyland attraction, but also a fascinating challenge in which the mechanics of the tile mixes with the race to the finish. Available at most stores, Disney Jungle Cruise: The adventure game, developed by Prospero Hall and published by Ravensburger, is an adventure game for 2 to 4 players against the backdrop of the jungle wave in which passengers travel from the headquarters of the Jungle Navigation Company. Each player’s task is to get a boat full of passengers and goods during their turn, avoid frightening threats such as the Indochinese tiger or the bottom of the water, and try to find out which of the four families has been appointed guardian of the company. On the way, they pick up lost cargo, make jokes and move the ship to secure the most valuable cargo.
At the beginning of the game each player chooses one of the four ships mentioned and fills it with passengers from the four families. The boat is divided into four sections, with the middle section being the safest. Players are also armed with a warning flash, which allows you to determine with a single random roll of the dice whether the weight of your ship will survive another turn or fall into the water.
The game is relatively simple: players roll the dice and follow the route of the river, automatically stopping at any outpost or landmark. Then draw four stack cards, each containing the threat level and the attacked part of the ship. Players must choose the number of navigation charts corresponding to the number of moves, and then throw the number of dangerous dice corresponding to the threat level of the map. When the dice with an exclamation mark land, players choose a passenger or a crate of goods from the part of the ship indicated on the navigation card. Once the collision is resolved, players will either pick up cargo from the Lost and Found Stack, or choose between a piece of cargo and a lost passenger when landing at the outpost. Players may also move the ship’s cargo at the beginning of a turn, protecting the middle of the ship except for a handful of cards. It’s a small strategy – players can choose: stretch the cargo to minimize the possible consequences, or leave the ship empty, because you can’t lose cargo that isn’t there yet.
Players have to stop at certain places, but they can take shortcuts to move faster. However, to shorten the path, you should skip the precious information tiles that show one of the four symbols of the family. Each of the clues on the route indicates that the family is not the goalkeeper, which means it costs less points at the end of the game. The Outpost Tip is a real family of guards who want to protect players in order to maximize their overall score. By knowing which family the goalkeeper is, the players can decide which passengers need to be protected and which go overboard. It is also possible to bring back lost passengers. For example, knowing which family doesn’t belong to the Keeper’s family can help the players decide which passengers to bring on board.
At the end of the game players receive 5 points for each relative of the caretaker who stayed on the boat and 3 points for each other passenger. They also get 10 points if they have a set of three different types of cargo on board, and 1 point for each unit of cargo not included in the set. Players also receive tips on how to return to the siege first, which are also worth points.
As an old fan of the Jungle Cruise line, I have experienced almost every encounter and most of the terrible jokes on the map, which are the calling card of the attraction. Although a game of 45-60 minutes sometimes seems a bit boring because each round is usually the same, it is a fun, family friendly game that is a step forward in typical family nightlife. All it takes is a strategy to make adults happy, and the whole family will complain if they read bad puns. By moving the cue cards, which are placed randomly at the beginning of the game, there are also more than enough game options to keep each game different… Although the jokes, such as driving a car, don’t change from one game to another. If you’re looking for a carefree game for family night: Disney Jungle Cruz: Adventurous games are definitely worth it.
